A deciduous climber with green leaves. It yields fragrant, white flowers in late spring and brown edible fruit in autumn. Issai has separate male and female flowers on the same plant. A deciduous climber with large heart-shaped (cordate) leaves that yields fragrant flowers during May-June. It starts producing fruit in the third year, which are harvested from October until November. It thrives in almost all climates, but requires protection against strong wind. It is a dioecious plant. One male plant is needed for every six female ones.
